Lily Collins Speaks ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ Ups And Downs With The Hollywood Reporter

hollywoodOur very own Clary Fray, Miss Lily Collins recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter to promote her upcoming film The English Teacher. Among the topics discussed was The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, where miss Collins addressed the ups and downs throughout the process of finally bringing City of Bones to the big screen.

CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL INTERVIEW

THR: You’ve been attached to Mortal Instruments through a lot of ups and downs. Was that ever disheartening to you — and as an extension of that — how rewarding was it when you finally got to film it?

LC:  I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason. I knew that by it going through this process, it was gonna come out at the end of it with the appropriate team, the right people involved. I had been a firm believer in the story. I was a fan before I was cast, so it’s something that I’ve been passionate about before really being involved in. I didn’t wanna pass up the opportunity to be able to play this heroine that I’ve admired and I just knew that I believed in the studio that has it, Constantin. I believe in the producers at Constantin and I know that they have a really good taste level when it comes to the creative side. I knew that they wouldn’t put it somewhere where it didn’t belong, so I just didn’t know with timing. I just prayed that it wouldn’t come to the time when they were ready to shoot and I was doing something else ‘cause I thought, “I can’t have it get to this point and then not be able to do it.” I was very fortunate of the timing of everything. I couldn’t be prouder of the project. I’m so excited for people to see it. I really think Harald [Zwart] did an amazing job of taking what could’ve been a CGI-heavy, action-packed reliant film and really made it about heart and character and emotion. Special effects are just the icing on top. I think, as well as hopefully pleasing the fans of the series, we’re going to invite new people in and make them obsessed with the story as well.

THR: Are you attached to star in the rest of the adaptations beyond City of Bones?

LC: Yes. I mean, it just depends on — you kind of have to see how the first one goes. As with any potential franchise, you just leave it up to kind of the fans and to see what happens with the first one and you hope. I signed on because I love Clary and I would want to play her for as long as I can. At the end of the day, you have to kind of step back and remove yourself and go, “OK, we’ll we just have to see what happens” and you go along with the flow. I think all of us would really love to play characters for as long as the fans will have it.

Lily Collins Talks Intense Training For ‘The Mortal Instruments’ With Static

claryWho said being Clary Fray was easy right? Miss Lily Collins recently spoke with static multimedia about the intense training she had to endure, three months before ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ went into production last August, and training during filming. Which included a variety of stunts.

Are you fearless like your character?

I would like to think that I am feisty and fearless. My mom and I travelled to many countries when I was growing up, and I have jumped off a cliff in Paraguay, and jumped off a cliff to go swimming, and I swam with sharks. So, I would like to think that I have done some things. I think I like to take risks, not be unsafe, but like take as many risks as I can.

Are you good in unexpected dangerous situations?

I’ve done enough martial arts training now and I think I would be kind of good in a situation but I try not to put myself in dangerous situations. I think having been able to play some of the characters that are strong females who get thrown into these positions and have to act quickly and I think I have learned kind of a lot from those characters. And also my best friends and the women that surround me in general, are all really strong females in their own way, and witty as well as physically strong. So I think it’s also about how you handle them intellectually and mentally, and if you go through something traumatic, how do you pick yourself up afterwards? That takes a lot of strength as well.

You mentioned training. What did you do?

I trained with a personal trainer for three months prior to filming, and I’ve always been a physical person. I love fitness and stuff, so that wasn’t the hardest part. We did stability and strength training and endurance training, and then with the stunt department, it was the same stunt department who had done Mirror, Mirror. So I really felt close to them, I knew them really well. We did sword fighting, acrobatics, aerial work, mortal combat, martial arts, every day, leading up to filming as well as getting up at maybe 4:30, 5 in the morning before filming to go in the gym and we all went through it together, so we would just get up early and just look at each other and be like, I can’t believe this.

Constantin Film Is Confident In ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’

PicMonkey Collage

Yes, Shadowhunters. Costantin Film is certainly really confident in The Mortal Instruments film franchise. A couple of weeks ago, the studio announced the producon of The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes would begin in the fall. The announcement came four months before the first film in this epic franchise, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, set to hit theaters on August this year.

In a recent statement discussing Constantin Film’s first quarter performance, Chairman of the Management Board, Bernhard Burgener discussed the studio’s confidence in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones when it makes its worldwide release this summer. (Honestly I have no idea what they mean with all that math!)

“We are eagerly awaiting the theatrical release of our international major production “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones”, which is already being actively discussed today among fans and experts alike.”

What you think? Sound off in the comments!
